| 2 | Fatmah Alzeyoudi, a researcher at the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research, said Iran may have sought to weaken the UAE’s standing as one of the region’s leading examples of economic prosperity, development and stability.
She said threats during the conflict extended beyond military targets to civilian and economic infrastructure, including reported threats against Jebel Ali, the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
Alzeyoudi said the UAE demonstrated that its strength goes beyond its economy, pointing to its growing military capabilities and strategic approach to defence.
Her assessment comes amid continued scrutiny of Iran’s regional strategy and its attempts to pressure the UAE during the conflict.

More than 90,000 people are estimated to be directly affected by the Himalayan landslide and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, the Red Cross said on Friday, as aid officials voiced fears of further flooding.
"We believe that at least 93,000 people have been affected and are in great need," David Fisher, head of delegation for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Nepal, told a Geneva press briefing.
Fisher said that the organisation's trucks with relief supplies were blocked after a lake formed by the landslide broke its banks, temporarily halting rescue operations.

| 9 | With the UAE’s three-day weekend coinciding with the final days of the summer break, families across the country are making the most of the extra time together before children return to classrooms on August 31.
The UAE has declared Friday, August 28, a holiday for the public and private sectors to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), giving employees who normally have Saturday and Sunday off a three-day weekend.
For families, the break comes at a time when preparations for the new academic year are already underway. While some are opting for short outings and staycations, others are choosing family gatherings and relaxed days at home before school routines resume.

| 10 | As the UAE’s updated admission-age rules take effect for the 2026–27 academic year, children entering Pre-KG, KG1, KG2 and Grade 1 at schools starting in August will be assessed using a December 31 cut-off.
But experts say age is only one part of the equation.
School readiness also depends on a child’s:
• Cognitive development
• Language and communication
• Social and emotional skills
• Motor development
• Independence and ability to follow routines
For some families, waiting an extra year could give children more time to build confidence and independence. Others face a different challenge, securing a school place when their child is eligible.
